The story takes place in the affluent community of Newport Beach, California, where the wealthy and complex lives of the characters unfold. The series revolves around Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), a troubled teenager from Chino who is taken in by Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher) and his wife Kirsten (Kelly Rowan) after being kicked out of his own home.
