"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is a 2012 fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson, based on the first half of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit". The film is a prequel to Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who joins a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug.
