The film tells the story of Karen Davis (Sarah Michelle Gellar), an American nurse living in Tokyo, Japan. Karen becomes involved in a mysterious and terrifying situation when she meets a young Japanese woman named Aoi (Jason Behr). Aoi's family has been haunted by a vengeful spirit, known as "onryo," which is believed to be the ghost of a woman who was murdered in a brutal and tragic manner.
