The film takes place several years after the events of the first movie. Rambo, a Vietnam War veteran, is still struggling to cope with his past experiences. He receives a visit from his former commander, Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna), who informs him that a group of American POWs are still being held captive in Vietnam. Rambo decides to embark on a mission to rescue them, facing his demons and the enemy once again.
