The film takes place in 1980s Manhattan, where Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a successful investment banker with a fiancée, Evelyn (Reese Witherspoon), and a mistress, Courtney (Samantha Mathis). On the surface, Patrick appears to be a charming and successful businessman, but in reality, he is a psychopathic killer who leads a double life.
